Messi, the dog that portrayed Snoop in the five-time nominee and winner of "Best Original Screenplay," "Anatomy of a Fall," had an unforgettable showing on Sunday at the Oscars. He appears in the film as Snoop, Milo's (Milo Machado-Graner) blind service dog. Milo discovers his father has died, and the film follows a twisting murder trial in which Sandra (Sandra Hüller) is the primary suspect in her husband's death.
The dog's surprising debut during the 2024 Oscars occurred during the first few minutes of the show. Wearing a dapper black bowtie, the guy appeared to be sitting in the audience. Messi went to the dressing rooms to assist host Jimmy Kimmel with his opening monologue, despite a rumor that the border collie would not be present at the ceremony.
Messi, a 7-year-old Border Collie, was named after soccer player Lionel Messi. Despite another Messi breaking onto the pop culture landscape, don't worry about misunderstanding them. One is a GOAT. One is a dog.
Messi first made waves in the United States after attending the Oscar nominations luncheon in February, where he bonded with Ryan Gosling, who adored the pooch, and Billie Eilish, who spent nearly ten minutes with the dog."The big moment was with Billie Eilish," Messi's trainer and dog mom, Laura Martin, informed The Hollywood Reporter."They were cuddling and petting, and they gave out a certain aura. Then Bradley Cooper ran into him in the hall. The dog approached him directly, indicating that they had a relationship."
"All of this attention began at Cannes," Laura Martin told The Hollywood Reporter in February. Anatomy of a Fall began its awards run at Cannes, where the film won the Palme d'Or, and Messi received his unofficial medal, the Palm Dog. "There were a few interviews in France," Martin continued, "but what we've seen here in America — the attention to this dog and his acting — it's beyond anything we expected. It's arguably the most you can achieve in this field."
The Academy Awards have a long tradition of honoring animals. When their movie won best picture in 2012, Uggie, the late Parson Russell Terrier who appeared opposite Jean Dujardin in “The Artist”, was on stage. Even though Jenny, the Banshees of Inisherin donkey, wasn't there in 2023, the host Jimmy Kimmel was joined by Jenny’s doppelgänger for a brief interaction. Kimmel said then that it was probably not a good idea to fly the donkey out from Ireland for such a short duration.
Messi has been an international star since the film's debut, appearing at awards events and giving interviews.
