The Kennel Association of Goa (KAG) organized its 73rd, 74th, and 75th All Breed Championship Dog Shows on November 16th and 17th, 2024, at the Police Parade Grounds in Altinho, Panaji. Over two days, the event showcased the best in canine breeding and training, with more than 250 entries competing under the watchful eyes of esteemed judges, exhibitors, and dog lovers from across India.

Day 1: A Vibrant Kickoff

The event began with palpable energy despite the blazing morning sun. Dogs of all sizes and breeds—from imposing Great Danes and Dobermans to agile Dachshunds, Rottweilers, and German Shepherds—took to the rings, exemplifying exceptional quality and training.

Alongside the competitions, leading pet care brands such as Drools, Carniwel, Bowlers, and GrainZero set up stalls, offering a diverse range of products for dog enthusiasts and the broader pet care community.

The judging panel, featuring Ms. Sung Yu Sang (Taiwan), Mr. NG Lip Siang (Singapore), and Mr. Ong H T Bernard (Singapore), brought a wealth of experience and offered insightful feedback.

The organisers at KAG have done an excellent job, and the quality of dog entries was impressive - Judge Ms. Sung Yu

Judge Ms. Sung Yu Sang expressed her admiration for the event, noting its impeccable organization and the high standard of participating dogs. Having judged multiple shows in India, she praised KAG’s efforts. “This is my fourth time in India for dog shows, and I’ve been a part of this industry for 20 years. The organisers at KAG have done an excellent job, and the quality of dog entries was impressive,” she enthused.

Similarly, first-time India visitor Mr. NG Lip Siang described Goa as a stunning location and was impressed by the quality of dogs on display.

A winner with the chief guest and panel of judges

In a conversation with Happy Pet, Steve Almeida, KAG Vice President, emphasized the importance of improving breeding standards and suggested categorizing shows for novice and professional exhibitors to encourage broader participation. “KAG upholds its integrity by ensuring fairness, sending a strong message to exhibitors nationwide,” he added.

Hon. Secretary Zane Keith Almeida encouraged participants to embrace both victories and losses, stressing that "the art of winning is learned over time."

As the first day wrapped up, the competition and conversations pointed toward a bright future for dog shows in India.

Day 2: Bigger Crowds, Higher Stakes

Junior handlers and their dogs are all smiles with their awards

The second day brought even more entries and excitement. The presence of the Goa Police DGP Shri Alok Kumar IPS as the chief guest lent prestige to the event, which saw local handlers and junior participants deliver standout performances in the rings.

Junior handlers were particularly celebrated, with awards recognizing their dedication and skill, drawing admiration from spectators. Local Goan handlers also left a mark, showcasing their expertise and bringing pride to the state.

KAG President Ms. Gita Shirvoikar commended the efforts of Happy Pet, noting our quick and efficient website and media promotion within just three days of collaboration. "This speed is commendable," she remarked, promising involvement earlier next year for an even more successful event.

The day concluded with an intense final lineup and award ceremony around 9 PM, celebrating both competition and camaraderie.

Beyond the Show: Building a Stronger Community

Another proud winner

The Kennel Association of Goa reaffirmed its reputation as a cornerstone of India’s dog show community. With its commitment to fair judging, meticulous organization, and a welcoming atmosphere, KAG continued to raise the bar.

Praising Happy Pet for their role in promoting the event and expanding its reach, Steve Almeida said, “Dog shows in India need a larger audience, and Happy Pet is on the right track to achieving this goal.”

Hon. Secretary Zane Keith Almeida echoed the sentiment, reminding exhibitors that every journey involves lessons learned and progress made.

Ms. Gita Shirvoikar, President of KAG was very happy with the support from Dr. Rashmi Rao, from Tailwaggerz, regarding Vet Checkup on the show days. Dr. Rashmi has supported the show for a long time now and is dedicatedly present at the venue at all times.
