In response to increasing incidents of stray dog attacks, Tiruchi Corporation in Tamil Nadu plans to introduce a licensing system for pet dogs in the city.
This move aims to track pet dog numbers and maintain vaccination records, ensuring better control over the situation. Mayor M. Anbazhagan highlighted the need for action following multiple reports of dog bites across the State. The licensing system is a proactive measure to address these issues.
Tiruchi has around 25,000 dogs, with an estimated 4,000 to 5,000 being pets. Corporation Commissioner V. Saravanan explained that the new system will monitor pet dogs through a zone-wise database, helping prevent disease outbreaks. Notifications will be sent to pet owners as needed.
An online portal will be set up for easy registration and license application, promoting responsible pet ownership and enhancing public safety in the city.
