In a bid to promote a pet-friendly work culture, Swiggy has unveiled its innovative 'Paw-ternity' policy, extending support to employees who are pet parents. This move highlights Swiggy's commitment to fostering a compassionate and inclusive workplace environment.
Girish Menon, Chief Human Resource Officer at Swiggy, emphasized the company's dedication to accommodating diverse forms of parenthood. The 'Paw-ternity' policy builds upon Swiggy's existing gender-neutral parental policy, which provides comprehensive benefits to primary and secondary caregivers.
As part of the new policy, employees will be granted an additional paid day off to welcome their new furry companions into their homes. This gesture recognizes the importance of bonding time between pet parents and their pets during the initial adjustment period.
Furthermore, Swiggy acknowledges the responsibilities that come with pet ownership and aims to alleviate any potential stress for employees. Pet parents are encouraged to utilize their casual or sick leave to attend to the needs of their pets, whether it be for routine check-ups or medical emergencies.
Importantly, the 'Paw-ternity' policy extends support beyond the joyful moments of pet adoption to include bereavement leave for employees who experience the loss of a beloved pet. This compassionate approach reflects Swiggy's understanding of the emotional bond between pet parents and their furry companions.
In addition to the practical benefits outlined in the policy, Swiggy recognizes the positive impact of pets on employee well-being. Allowing employees to work from home during the settling-in period acknowledges the importance of creating a comfortable environment for both pets and their owners.
By introducing the 'Paw-ternity' policy, Swiggy sets a precedent for other companies to prioritize the needs of pet parents in the workplace, fostering a culture of empathy and support.
