On Saturday, an exhibition titled #Muttsindahood will open, featuring portraits of street dogs by 55-year-old artist Sakena Begg. Inspired by the dogs in her neighborhood, this exhibition marks her debut show.
Sakena, an art teacher by profession, has always had a passion for animals. "During the lockdowns, before online lessons began, I would walk around the neighborhood to care for the dogs, and then I gradually started drawing them," she explains. Her students encouraged her to hold an exhibition after she had completed a substantial collection, aiming to raise funds for the local dog rescue group, Frazer Canine Squad.
Her mixed media artworks, created with pens, watercolors, and unusual materials like coffee, showcase her unique approach. Sakena shared that she used whatever materials were available to her at the time.
#Muttsindahood will be held on July 13 from 4 pm to 6 pm at Pearson Residency, Richards Town. For more information, call 98861 47132.
