New Delhi: Royal Canin, a leader in pet nutrition, has partnered with Friendicoes SECA to implement an Animal-Assisted Intervention (AAI) initiative across select cities in India. The project aims to use the therapeutic benefits of cats and dogs to enhance the social, emotional, and cognitive well-being of individuals facing challenges such as autism, dementia, depression, anxiety, and loneliness.
To ensure the highest standards of training and implementation, Royal Canin has enlisted the expertise of Shirin Dhabhar, a renowned animal behaviorist and expert trainer. Dhabhar's involvement will be vital in establishing best practices for AAI projects in India. This initiative marks the first of its kind in the country at such a scale, focusing on training shelter animals to offer therapeutic support to people in need.
The project will unfold in phases, beginning with the formation of a multidisciplinary team comprising veterinarians, paramedics, psychologists, animal behaviorists, trainers, and handlers. As it progresses, additional experts will be onboarded to provide the necessary care and support in different cities.
Satinder Singh, General Manager of Royal Canin India, stated, "With this initiative, we aim to demonstrate the positive impact that pets can have on their human companions and transform the lives of the most vulnerable members of our society."
Geeta Seshamani, Vice President of Friendicoes SECA, emphasized the mutual benefits for both humans and animals, noting, "This project is about second chances for both animals and humans, proving that every life, no matter how small, has the power to make a difference."
Shirin Dhabhar, Founder & Director of Canines Can Care, expressed her enthusiasm for the initiative, stating, "By pairing shelter animals with those in need, we are not just changing lives but also reshaping the very essence of the human-animal bond."
This groundbreaking project aligns with Royal Canin's commitment to building a better world for pets and people, creating meaningful connections, and enhancing the quality of life for both humans and animals.
Founded in 1968 by French veterinarian Dr. Jean Cathary, Royal Canin is a global leader in health-focused nutrition for cats and dogs.
