A rare and beautiful Indian Black Eagle, also known as the Red-naped Ibis, was rescued by the Bokaro Forest Department in Jharkhand after it was found injured near Chas Telidih. This stunning bird, known for its bright red nose and glossy black plumage, is native to the Indian subcontinent and seldom seen, making the rescue particularly significant.

Locals first spotted the injured bird near the pond at Telidih Bend and promptly alerted the forest department. Upon receiving the report, a team from the department rushed to the scene, rescuing the bird and providing it with first aid at Chas Pet Clinic.

Rajneesh Kumar, an officer of the Bokaro Forest Department, confirmed the bird's scientific name as Psidibis papillosa in an interview. He explained that after initial treatment, the bird is now being carefully tended to and will be released back into its natural habitat once it has fully recovered.

Describing the Indian Black Eagle, Kumar noted its large size, calm nature, long beak, and long legs, with a distinctive deep red spot on its head. While rarely seen, these birds often come to water bodies during the rainy season in search of insects and frogs. Kumar emphasized the importance of wildlife protection and urged people to immediately report any injured or endangered animals to the forest department.

Typically silent, the Indian Black Eagle calls out at dawn and dusk, especially during nesting periods, with a series of loud, shrieking cries that gradually decrease in volume. Although their nocturnal calls are rare, they have been noted in urban areas. This species can sometimes be confused with the Waldrapp from a distance, but the Waldrapp is smaller, more social, inhabits wetlands, lacks the white wing, and has a fully feathered head.
