Meet Leema: The Sniffer Dog Who Protected Modi and Other VVIPs in Tamil Nadu

Leema, the dedicated sniffer dog with the Dindigul District Police, retired on Friday after nearly eight years of loyal service. This Labrador was instrumental in providing security for VVIPs visiting Tamil Nadu, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Leema was trained for a year to detect explosives, and her skills quickly made her an essential part of the police force. She was regularly deployed to various districts across the state, ensuring the safety of high-profile visitors.

To commemorate her retirement, Superintendent of Police A. Pradeep organized a ceremony where Leema was honored with a garland and shawl. Her handlers, Special Sub-Inspector of Police Murugan and Head Constable Sankar, expressed gratitude for her years of service and dedication. They have been with Leema throughout her career and have formed a strong bond with the skilled Labrador.

Deputy Superintendents of Police Sivakumar and B. Joseph Nixon also attended the retirement ceremony, acknowledging Leema's contribution to public safety.

While Leema will no longer be on active duty, she will continue to live comfortably at the police kennel with her fellow sniffer dogs, Dimpy and Rocky. The kennel is set to welcome a new sniffer dog soon to continue their important work.

Leema's retirement marks the end of her era with the Dindigul District Police, but her legacy of dedication and service will continue to inspire.
