In a display of remarkable bravery and dedication, a police Doberman named Tunga 2 played a pivotal role in capturing a murder suspect and preventing a second homicide in Karnataka's Davanagere. The extraordinary incident unfolded in the town's Channagiri area, where the dog ran eight kilometers non-stop through heavy rain alongside her handler, constable Shafi, to apprehend the suspect.
The story began on Thursday when a lifeless body was discovered on Santhebennur's Bada Road, near a petrol pump. The local police summoned Tunga 2 and Shafi to the crime scene to search for clues. After sniffing the victim's jacket, Tunga 2 picked up a scent and started sprinting through the rain, determined to track down the perpetrator.
Tunga 2's relentless pursuit led her and Shafi to a house approximately eight kilometers from the crime scene. Upon arrival, the officers heard a commotion inside and quickly intervened, finding a man, Rangaswamy, violently assaulting his wife. The woman was on the verge of losing consciousness when the officers rescued her.
Subsequent interrogation revealed the horrifying details of Rangaswamy's actions. He had murdered Santosh, a native of Santhebennur, using a machete, driven by suspicions of an affair between Santosh and his wife. After committing the crime, Rangaswamy returned home with the intention of killing his wife as well. However, thanks to Tunga 2's swift response and determination, the woman was saved just in time.
The police credited Tunga 2's exceptional tracking skills and Shafi's dedication for the successful apprehension of Rangaswamy, who was charged with murder and attempted murder. The officers noted that without Tunga 2's intervention, Rangaswamy's wife might have become his second victim.
Tunga 2's heroism not only highlights the crucial role of police dogs in law enforcement but also underscores the deep bond and teamwork between the canines and their handlers. This courageous act serves as a reminder of the remarkable abilities and loyalty of our furry protectors.
