Peggy, once labeled Britain's "ugliest" dog, has made an astonishing leap to Hollywood fame, starring alongside Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman in the upcoming Marvel film Deadpool & Wolverine. Her owner, Holly Middleton from East Yorkshire, describes the transformation as both "unexpected" and "surreal".
The five-year-old pugese, a mix of pug and Chinese crested, became a sensation after winning a national contest as the ugliest dog last year.
Peggy's newfound celebrity status has landed her the role of "Dogpool" in the film, a journey Middleton never anticipated. "Not in my wildest dreams did I think anything like this would happen," Middleton remarked, recalling how it all began with a simple photo submission to the contest.
Despite Peggy's rise to stardom, Middleton insists that she remains a typical family pet at home.
The usually "reserved and lazy" dog has, however, gained confidence under the guidance of a professional trainer during the film's production.
"She's still just plain old Peg," said Middleton, a 37-year-old makeup artist who was relieved to have Peggy back after filming.
Her absence was felt deeply at home, especially by Middleton's two sons, who were unaware of Peggy's Hollywood adventure due to the need for secrecy.
Holly Middleton describes watching Peggy grace the red carpet at the New York premiere as an almost surreal experience.
The pooch seemed relaxed and was the center of affection from Hollywood stars like Ryan Reynolds, who were seen showering Peggy with love and attention.
As for future film roles, there are currently no plans, as Peggy is primarily a beloved family pet who enjoys nothing more than snuggling on the couch.
Despite her global recognition, Peggy is still the same dog who turns heads in the village with her unique appearance and growing fanbase.
"Before all of this, people used to whisper about her looks, but now, the public perception has definitely changed for the better"
Peggy's story is a testament to how quickly the world can change and embrace unique beauty, turning an "ugly" dog into a beloved star.
