In a heartwarming tale of love and resilience, Jalebi, a stray dog from the streets of Patiala, Punjab, has made an incredible journey to her new home in Australia.
Jalebi's transformation from a street dog in India to a beloved family member in Melbourne has captured the hearts of many, demonstrating the lengths some will go for their furry friends.
The four-year-old dog was adopted by a Kiwi couple, Alicia and Arun, who found her outside their home in Patiala. Initially, they hadn’t planned on bringing a dog back from India, but Jalebi quickly found a special place in their hearts.
Alicia, who was in Patiala training midwifery educators, felt a deep connection with the stray, and together with Arun, they decided to give her a forever home in Melbourne.
However, Jalebi’s journey wasn’t easy. The process of bringing her from India to Australia involved navigating complex regulations and a substantial amount of planning.
The couple endured two years of meticulous paperwork, spending approximately $15,000 USD (around ₹12,00,000 INR) to ensure Jalebi could make the trip.
The journey itself was arduous: Jalebi had to quarantine for around ten months, travel to two different countries, and endure three international flights before finally reaching Australia.
Alicia detailed the steps involved in bringing Jalebi to Melbourne in a video on the dog’s Instagram account.
She described the transition from street life to a cozy life indoors, as Jalebi traveled from India to France, then New Zealand, before finally arriving in Melbourne.
The video, which has amassed over a million views, features touching moments of Jalebi with Alicia and Arun, including the heartwarming reunion when they picked her up from New Zealand after her quarantine.
The post highlighted Jalebi’s transformation and playful spirit, noting that she had adapted to various environments and even learned new languages, including Hindi and French.
Jalebi’s story has resonated with people worldwide, and social media posts about her journey have attracted millions of views and countless comments. Her story is a testament to love and compassion, highlighting the extraordinary lengths people will go to provide a better life for their pets.
