A dog born with six legs and abandoned in a car park has found her forever home. Ariel, a spaniel named after Disney's Little Mermaid, captured global attention when she was found outside a Pembrokeshire supermarket at 11 weeks old last October. Well-wishers raised £15,000 for surgery to remove her extra limbs, which had fused to resemble a mermaid's tail.

Ariel was initially cared for by Greenacres Rescue in Haverfordwest, which received hundreds of adoption inquiries. Emma-Mary Webster and Ollie Bird, recovering from the loss of their 16-year-old dog Pippin, applied to adopt a new pet. They were unaware of Ariel's fame until she arrived for a home visit and immediately felt at home.

The couple, who run the Pembrokeshire-based Blue Horizons Surf Club, were thrilled to welcome Ariel into their lives. The club offers adaptive surf lessons for people with various physical and mental disabilities, including cerebral palsy, multiple sclerosis, and dementia. Ariel has quickly become a beloved member of the team, participating in lessons and bringing joy to everyone she meets.

Despite her challenging start—born with an extra vulva and only one kidney—Ariel has made a near-full recovery. She enjoys beach life and is a favorite among club members, showcasing her resilience and zest for life.

"You should see how excited she gets whenever we get out her leash, not to mention the way she runs around on the sand," Ollie said. "Other than a tiny bit of nerve damage in one of her back legs, you'd never think she'd ever had anything wrong with her."
