With summer in full swing, UAE residents are increasingly turning to pet sitters to care for their animals while they travel. The demand for these services peaks during the summer months and the year-end holiday season, providing essential care for both stray and pet dogs.
Specialized sitters offer regular check-ins and care, with prices ranging from Dh70 (Rs.1,593) to Dh170 (Rs.3,870) per visit. Many residents take vacations of up to three weeks, spending up to Dh3,570 (Rs.81,271) on pet-sitting services, according to a Dubai-based website. Paulita Hesketh, owner of The Pet Sitter Dubai, notes the seasonal surge in bookings.
"During peak seasons like July and August, December and January, and over the Easter break, we experience a surge in bookings,"
Hesketh emphasizes their approach to managing increased demand: "Despite being a small team of skilled multicultural women, we ensure high-quality service without hiring additional staff. We pride ourselves on efficiently managing our workload to meet our clients' needs."
A standard visit can last 30 minutes and costs around Dh85 (Rs.1935), applying to two pets if they are of the same species.
Hesketh explained, "Our services range from 30 to 60-minute visits, all conducted in the familiar surroundings of the client's home. When a client contacts us, we begin with a comprehensive questionnaire to gather essential details such as medical history and behavioral traits. Matching the pet with the most suitable sitter is crucial, followed by a face-to-face meeting and a transparent contractual agreement."
Layla Binbrek, a Canadian expat, has used Paulita's services for years. As a first-time pet owner, she was initially apprehensive about leaving her cat, Milo, behind. "It was difficult, but I knew he was taken care of in the comfort of his own home."
Even during unexpected situations like recent storms in Dubai, Binbrek praised the pet-sitter's dedication.
"The cat sitter still made it to the house and sent me a video to let me know everything was okay."
For busy professionals the convenience and reliability of pet-sitting services are invaluable. They say that it's been a lifesaver. They can now travel for work without worrying about their pets being alone. they call it the most convenient service they've come across, giving them peace of mind knowing that their dog is in good hands while they are away.
