The Divisional Forest Office of Prayagraj is organizing a Bird Festival during the Mahakumbh, scheduled for February 1-2, 2025.
This two-day event will celebrate the relationship between nature and spirituality, emphasizing the significance of conservation.
In a recent announcement, Prayagraj’s forest officials shared that the proposal for this unique festival is currently under government review.
With a focus on engaging youth and promoting eco-tourism, the Bird Festival aims to inspire a deeper appreciation for nature and wildlife conservation.
Set against the backdrop of Mahakumbh, the event will highlight Uttar Pradesh's rich biodiversity, drawing attention to its wildlife reserves and scenic landscapes.
Organizers from the forest department, in partnership with UP Tourism, plan to develop a tourism circuit that showcases the state’s forests, historic sites, and natural attractions, enhancing the region's appeal for eco-conscious travelers.
Prayagraj is home to a vibrant birdlife, hosting around 90 bird species across its wetlands, which will be a focal point during the festival.
This year, the event follows the theme "Faith of Kumbh, Nature Conservation, and Climate," exploring the interwoven nature of faith and environmental stewardship.
The festival will feature expert-led discussions, including contributions from national and international conservationists, along with insights from saints and spiritual leaders.
Local students are encouraged to participate, with field visits and educational activities designed to deepen their understanding of conservation efforts.
In addition, a photography exhibition will spotlight experts in ornithology, wildlife tourism, and photography, capturing the region’s natural beauty and diversity.
This initiative reflects India’s longstanding cultural connection to nature, symbolized by elements such as rivers, mountains, and trees, which have spiritual and ecological significance.
The Mahakumbh, held on the sacred riverbanks, underscores this heritage, and through the Bird Festival, officials hope to inspire future generations to continue this legacy of respect for the environment.
